ServiceRespite Services
Short-term care that gives family caregivers a well-deserved break β in the comfort of home or in an approved community setting β while your loved one is cared for by trained, dependable staff.
What is respite care?
Respite provides care on a short-term basis for a person who cannot care for themselves and who is usually cared for by a family member or friend. The service is designed to provide temporary coverage for the caregiver during an absence or when they simply need relief.
Two settings for respite
In-Home Respite
Provided in the person's own home or place of residence. A trained staff member comes to the home to care for your loved one β giving the primary caregiver a much-needed break while the individual stays in a familiar, comfortable environment.
Out-of-Home Respite
Provided outside the person's home β at a provider's facility or another approved community setting. Out-of-home respite can be arranged for a few hours, or for overnight and extended stays when families need more substantial relief.
Who is eligible?
A person is eligible for respite when the primary caregiver is absent or needs relief from caregiving duties. Respite services are available under the Brain Injury (BI), Community Alternative Care (CAC), Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI), Developmental Disabilities (DD), and Elderly Waiver (EW) plans. Individuals must be Minnesota residents and meet the eligibility requirements specific to each waiver.
